• Preparing, measuring, and marking the surface to be covered
• Mixing and applying mortar, mastic, cement, or other adhesives using hand tools
• Laying mosaic tiles; removing and replacing cracked or damaged tiles
• Installing floating floors, wire meshing, and forms
• Using hand and power tools to install terrazzo, tile, granite, and marble
• Observing safety in accordance with government and company standards

• Grade 10 is the legal minimum, but a high school diploma is often required
• Completion of an 8,000-hour apprenticeship, including a combination of on-the-job and in-school training
• Exam to obtain Certificate of Qualification
• This is a Red Seal trade and obtaining certification will allow you to work anywhere in Canada

• Generally 40-hour work week in residential, commercial, or industrial settings
• Travel from job to job is the norm
• Some setters are self-employed; other employers include construction companies, residential and industrial building developers, and masonry contractors

Apprentice wage increases with skills and expertise. Fully qualified workers earn an average of $25.00 per hour.
