Prize Winner!

Charlie from Hamilton is the newest apprenticesearch.com iPod winner!

Charlie is currently an apprentice Tool and Die Maker who decided to become a tradesperson after growing up with a brother and father who are Automotive Service Technicians.  Charlie wanted to pursue a trade that appealed to his creative side, and felt that Tool and Die would provide the challenge and creativity he desired.  Charlie prepared himself by taking tech classes in high school and participating in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).  He also had a friend in the trade who acted as a mentor throughout his training.

Charlie believes that a successful Tool and Die apprentice needs to be creative and have problem solving ability.  He says that sometimes you will be working alone, and at other times you will be a member of a team, so communication skills and getting along with people are very important.  Even though being an apprentice is challenging at times, Charlie believes that the process is very rewarding.  He recommends that apprentices should be flexible and take every day as it comes.

In terms of what employers are looking for, Charlie believes that an apprentice should be enthusiastic and willing to work.  Punctuality is also key, as is the eagerness to learn and ask questions.  He says that an apprentice should not be afraid to say "I don't know".

In seeking information about the trade, Charlie spoke with his teachers and conducted a lot of research online.  Charlie made use of the comprehensive information available at apprenticesearch.com, and was appreciative of the direct and personal assistance that was available regarding his resume and job skills.

apprenticesearch.com would like to thank Charlie for the valuable feedback he provided to us through his online survey response.  Congratulations Charlie, enjoy your iPod!
