Jonathan Mason got up most weekday
mornings this summer and helped to make
homeowners’ dreams come true. As a first
year apprentice at J.G.W. Electric in
Waterloo he has learned the basics of
wiring a house for electricity. His good
work ethic and willingness to learn has
made him a valued employee to John
Watson, the owner of J.G.W. Electric.
“Getting an apprenticeship isn’t easy. An apprentice has to have an open mind, a good work ethic and a willingness to learn,” says Mason. His co-op courses in high school gave him some experience in residential electricity. Jonathan is confident that the electrical industry will always be thriving and he looks forward to becoming a journeyperson in a few years.
Watson agrees, the industry is always changing and everyone is always going to need it. He started as an apprentice and learned everything he needed to know about electrical work before starting his own company 11 years ago. Watson enjoys the independence of being a small business owner. He has developed his leadership and management skills along the way and uses them to select his apprentices. “I was quite pleased to secure
Jonathan, a client of
apprenticesearch.com. The website is
great! It is free and has a lot of
interested candidates. I received 125
resumes and had to narrow it down to 2 –
that was tough,” says Watson. He hires
apprentices that he can train to his
methods and high standards. He looks for
apprentices with skills, experience and
attitude. The biggest impression is
attitude. Watson made a solid match by
hiring Mason. |
