Meet George from Canadian Tire in Georgetown!

   

apprenticesearch.com is pleased to announce that George K., pictured below, has won our first employer prize for completing the apprenticesearch.com survey and providing us with valuable feedback.  George is an Automotive Service Manager at Canadian Tire in Georgetown, Ontario.  He was once an apprentice himself, and feels that completing his formal apprenticeship training was a valuable life experience.  This experience allowed him to gain hands-on training and become a fully certified Automotive Service Technician.  George feels that his time as an apprentice has also aided him in his current management position, as he can relate to the trade from both a technical and business perspective.

George's motivation for becoming an Automotive Service Technician stemmed from his understanding that he could have a career in a field he enjoyed and also earn money while learning.  He understood the importance of job security, and knew that it would be provided by a career in the trades.  In making his decision, George referred to the advice of family members who also found secure, rewarding careers in the trades.

In order to have success as an apprentice, George feels that job seekers require a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training.  For this reason, he believes that apprentices could benefit from attending pre-apprenticeship training programs at local colleges, as this will set them on the right track toward their future careers.

In George's experience as an apprentice and now as a manager, he has noticed a stigma attached to the trades which may lead some to believe that the pay and training are sub-standard.  In his personal experience, George has found that such claims are misconceptions, and is always sure to inform his apprentices that there will be a need for new apprentices well into the future.  In doing this, George conveys to his apprentices the responsibility of ensuring the future prosperity of the trade.  Furthermore, George makes sure to keep his apprentices apprised of opportunities in other automotive careers which they could pursue in the future.
